Barbara Grushesky Shafran, M.Ed., R.P., ZIN is an herbal esthetician and herbalism teacher. She is also an avid gardener and energy worker.  Frustrated with conventional medical advice that she received as a mother, Barbara began studying herbalism and energy healing. After seeing positive results on her family, Barbara's passion became to help others in her community. 

 

Her herbalism training includes training as an herbalism teacher, learning the types of herbs for all of the body systems,

identifying and harvesting herbs, and preparing of herbal remedies and teas. Her Usui Reiki training provides her with energy work basics to balance the human energy field, often "feeling" areas of dis-ease.  Crystals and herbs are also integrated into Barbara's energy work.  Barbara's Master's Degree in Education enables her to integrate psychological theories into her energy healing, and speak at beauty schools nationwide. Per the FDA Act of 1906: Barbara is not a medical professional and does not intend to diagnose, treat, prevent, prescribe or cure any dis-ease. Many of the herbs Barbara uses have not been evaluated by the FDA.

 

Barbara's study of estiology includes facial techniques and machines, advanced exfoliation methods, skin anatomy and histology, eyelash extensions, eyelash tinting and lifting and eyebrow mapping, waxing, laminating, and tinting (henna and traditional).  Her permanent make-up (PMU) training includes certification in microblading and microshading.

A physical fitness enthusiast, Barbara works out at four gyms and is also a certified Zumba 1 and Zumba Gold Instructor.

Barbara is a Pennsylvania, state-licensed Esthetician since 2017.  She is pursuing state licensure in New York and Florida.

Her private esti studio in Pittsburgh is licensed with the state of Pennsylvania since 2022.

She is a member of the American Botanical Council, Associated Skin Care Professionals 

and the American Herbalist Guild.  She is also a member of the American Academy of Micropigmentation.

Prior to entering the field of herbalism and esthetics, with her fluency in Spanish and a Master's Degree in Foreign Language Education from the University of Pittsburgh, Barbara was a high school and college instructor for 25 years, and she also used her foreign languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Finnish) to work in international business.

 

Barbara is also a philanthropist and a caring member of the Greater Pittsburgh community.  As Founding Executive Director of the micro-nonprofit, Moving Forward Pittsburgh, Inc., Barbara refurbished and donated over 400 computers to Pittsburgh non-profits, coached 20 adults in transition through community grants, and she continues to help kids who struggle with school as a Family Advocate.  She also assists non-profits with grant writing.  She is on the Board of the Independent Family Resource Group, an Advisory Board Member of Classrooms Without Borders and a Member of the Citizens' Environmental Association of the Slippery Rock Area.
